She's Here!

Abigail Jean Van Dyk

December 17th, 2006

My little girl has finally arrived, in fact she decided to surprise us all and come 2 days early!

Sunday morning I awoke to my water breaking (lovely), so I called the hospital and they told me I better come in, so off Rick and I went (Ethan was being watched by his Grandma). After talking to the doctor that was on call ( my delivering doctor was still on holidays) we decided that I would give natural birth a try once again. So, 12 hours later.... after a not so brutal labour, she's here. She weighed in at 8 pounds and 2 ounces.

I had a not so fun couple of days in the hospital hooked up to an Iv due to an infection inside of me that was giving me a fever. They had to reinsert my Iv 3 times, once because it poked through my vain and puffed my arm up like a big balloon ( that was scary). I was informed Tuesday morning my blood work came back and my hemoglobin levels were extremely low (the normal level is 130, mine is 82). So, they made Rick promise that if they let me go home that he would be taking care of me and making sure that I didn't over do it. Because my Iron is so low I have to take 3 iron pills a day, and I have to be careful what I do because I could very easily pass out just from being light headed.

They think that the meds that they gave me in the hospital cleared up the infection that I had, so as long as I don't get a fever in the next couple days there is nothing to worry about. I was just glad that I was the one with the infection and not Abby!

Well, I'm home now and VERY happy to be home! My first night here was ruff, Ethan woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep for an hour, and Abby spent a good 3 hours up with me, I think that she was just lonely. I'm tired but, I'm really happy:-), and I feel pretty good!

Thanks to everyone that visited me in the hospital.

Everyone is welcome to drop by and visit my new baby, just call first:-)

glad you're at home and feeling good Megan (besides the tiring night) Is Rick still changing the diapers? lol. what a good Dad, I don't know if Rob could have done that for a whole day - it's tricky when they're so small. we're remembering your family in our prayers...

Congratulations Megan! Sorry we didn't come visit you in the hospital. Jordan just got her MMR needle and I would rather not be near the baby yet until we know that everything is okay and that I won't pass anything on to you or little Abby. She is absolutely precious. I promise that we will come and visit soon though! I cannot wait to see her! I am glad that the labour was not as bad as with Ethan and we will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Wow, you must be feeling pretty good to be posting on your blog after only 3 days! Hope you're able to take it easy - I'm sure that's not easy... now that you're not pregnant anymore, you probably feel like doing more. Those pictures of Abigail are adorable - she is such a little doll! You take care of yourself, and if you ever don't have someone there to help you in the day and just need to get some rest, let me know and I can take Ethan here to play with (and be entertained by) my kids.
